New Name & Logo, Still Neighborhood-Focused
In 2023, ICON changed their approach to facilitating pro-neighborhood policies and priorities by transitioning from a Political Action Committee to non-profit organization. The name of the organization changed to Springfield Independent Coalition for Our Neighborhoods, that reflects a broader focus – from “older” to “our” neighborhoods. All neighborhoods face similar issues, and ICON’s vision for safe, clean, and livable neighborhoods is for all of Springfield. ICON continues to work with all leaders to promote policies and initiatives that are neighborhood-friendly.
Updated Branding
Donna Mathis designed the colorful new logo, which features rooftops, a sun, and birds. The new website design is based on Donna’s logo, with bright colors and a white background. The layout and functionality uses the WordPress block editor for flexible site-wide editing with the latest (as of 2024) standard theme, extensively customized for ICON.
Updated Content
O3 worked with ICON leadership to review and update all content based on the change from PAC to non-profit, to appeal to a wider range of Springfield neighborhoods, to update ICON’s neighborhood resources with the new branding and to reflect changes at the City of Springfield, IL. Content was reorganized, with updated multi-level menus. Previous historical PAC content was archived to be findable but not front and center, maintaining search ranking for the site.
Taking Action
On the home page, calls to action with details and links. ActNOW! encourages citizens to take action – by being and nominating Good Neighbors, supporting their own neighborhood association, understanding how large item pickup and the city council work, and with links to help with problem properties. Join Us! encourages visitors to attend ICON’s informative meetings. Support ICON includes ways to become active with ICON: become a member, become a sponsor and to donate. ICON’s Work details how ICON encourages Springfield’s citizens to work together, with links to ICON’s focus areas and a list of helpful resources.
O3 has been a long-time supporter of and participant in ICON’s work,
and I’m pleased to continue as the organization changes and grows into its renewed form.
